The preservation and protection function of products – is the basic function of packaging and packaging is the ability to protect the content of external environmental influences. Between packing, packing material and method must be a perfect correlation, so that the product reaches the customer in a condition as good, allowing the consumption or use as specified in the technical parameters of the product. Packaging protects products against action following types of factors:
- Physical factors – mechanical, light, temperature, pressure, etc..
- Chemical factors – water vapor, atmospheric gases (oxygen, carbon dioxide, sulfur dioxide, nitrogen oxides, etc..)
- Biological factors – microorganisms, spores, fungi, insects, rodents, etc..
Because of these factors this is why some transports of packages use placards.
